Our Mission
At ClimateDefenders our mission is to offer certified personal pollution offsets for carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide, and nitrogen oxides at market competitive prices, to promoting activities and practices that reduce these pollutant emissions into the atmosphere, and to inform the public of the harmful effects of global climate change, acid rain,
and smog and ozone formation.

Pollution Basics
Almost everything we do (i.e. riding in our cars, heating our homes, and the electricity that we use for our lights and appliances) causes air pollution in various forms:  Major Pollutants include:

Carbon dioxide (CO2), a primary Greenhouse Gas and the major contributor to Global Climate Change and Global Warming;
Sulfur dioxide (SO2), a primary cause of Acid Rain; and
Nitrogen oxides (NOx)
, the predominant cause of smog and ozone formation and a contributor to Acid Rain.

The sum of these pollutant emissions define our Personal Pollution Footprint™.   Carbon offsets and pollution allowances, when combined with energy reduction and waste minimization, offer a quantifiable means to reduce or neutralize your Personal Pollution Footprint™ and promote a cleaner environment.  See our "About Us" and  "FAQ" pages for more details on our carbon offsets and pollution allowances.
About Our Offsets
ClimateDefenders™ purchases certified carbon dioxide offsets directly from the Chicago Climate Exchange (CCX), North America's first and only legally-binding clearinghouse for greenhouse gas emissions trading. All CCX projects are certified and verified by third party auditing firms.  To provide further transparency and additionality, ClimateDefenders prioritizes purchases of "grouped offsets" directly related to alternative energy projects, agricultural carbon soil sequestration, methane capture and combustion, and/or Kyoto Protocol Clean Development Mechanisms (CDMs).  Based on the lack of transparency associated with tree sequestration, ClimateDefenders™ does not support forest related offset projects. Nitrogen oxide and sulfur dioxide emission credits are purchased directly from the United States Environmental Protection Agency's Clean Air Clearinghouse or the Chicago Climate Futures Exchange (CCFE).  These emission credits will be "retired" in the Climate Defense Fund and shall not be available for any subsequent future purchase. Pollution offsets will be purchased as demand dictates based on the minimum offer requirements of the US EPA, the CCX, and the CCFE.  Offset purchases will be reconciled on at least a quarterly basis, assuming minimum purchase restrictions are achieved and will be reviewed and certified by a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
